Code for Kids: Teaching Programming to Underprivileged Youth
Technology is shaping the future, but millions of children from underprivileged backgrounds are left without access to digital education. Through hands-on workshops, mentorship, and access to computers, we aim to equip them with skills that open doors to a brighter future.
Despite Bangalore being India’s tech capital, many children in lower-income areas have never used a computer, let alone written a line of code. Without digital literacy, they are at a severe disadvantage when it comes to education and future employment opportunities.
Lack of Access – Many schools lack computers, reliable internet, or trained coding instructors.
Limited Career Exposure – Students in underserved communities rarely see tech as a career path.
Breaking the Cycle – Without digital skills, young people are stuck in low-income jobs with no upward mobility.
Coding Classes – Free workshops teaching Python, Scratch, and web development.
Mentorship Program – Volunteers from the tech industry guiding students.
Tech Access – Laptops, software, and internet access for learning.
Coding Competitions – Encouraging students to showcase their skills and build confidence.
Aarav, a 12-year-old from a low-income neighborhood, had never touched a computer before joining Code for Kids. After just a few months, he built his first website and now dreams of becoming a software engineer. With continued support, many more children like Aarav can transform their futures.
